University of Hong Kong, Chow Yei Ching Building


The building built in 1993 went through series of major renovations in 2012-2014. The retrofits on the energy consuming systems performed by Siemens Hong Kong covered the chiller plant and the air-side systems of the air-conditioning system, as well as lighting and the BMS. Furthermore, a major refurbishments of the water fittings and fixtures and lifts machine room was done, as well as facade treatment and exterior surfaces and green roof introduction. As a part of the project the building operating policies were revaluate and revise in order to enforce environmentally sustainable operations including green purchasing, green cleaning, waste management, pest management, monitoring, feedback and continuous improvement. AEE’s role was leading the environmental efforts as a sustainability and LEED consultant. The project is pursuing certification under LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED EBOM) and upon certification it will be the first educational facility in Hong Kong to achieve LEED certification for existing buildings and one of only three buildings in Hong Kong to achieve LEED EBOM certification.
